FINDING THE INFORMATION YOU REQUIRE

Research material is broadly divided into three categories:

• Archives (primary source documents) including documents, photographs, films, videos and sound recordings.
• Publications (printed sources).

Sectors represented in the collection include:

• Commercial construction, building and civil engineering projects
• The infrastructure of cities, road making and aggregates supply
• Horticulture, agri-business, fishing and marine industry
• Stock and station agencies, bloodstock
• Retail shopping development - malls and department stores
• Residential property development and construction of housing
• Forestry and forests
• Sawmilling, logging and the pulp and paper industry
• Transportation and cartage, heavy haulage and horse drawn
• Leisure and entertainment centre's
• Shipping and coastal scows
• Energy development and exploration, geothermal, oil and electricity
• Financial services - banking and investment
• Steel and concrete industries
• Building products, Hardware and Timber Merchants
• Architectural plans
• Sporting and social events
• Management practices and employee relations

In addition, there is an extensive collection of photographs which includes work sites, company operations and activities, events, places of interest, social activities and staff social and sporting occasions.

Film and video material are also held, as are sound recordings, architectural plans, company publications and reference material.

Access to records is governed by the Access Policy of Fletcher Challenge Archives, and is subject to conditions relating to individual collections in that policy. Access is by appointment only. The Archivist holds the right of restricting or refusing access to the collection as is stated in the Access Policy.

RESEARCH CHARGES

I nitial response to enquiries will be answered over the telephone or by email. The Archives reserves the right to charge NZ$50:00 per hour for further research time by the archivist. Contact the archives for more information or to schedule an appointment.

REPRODUCTION OF MATERIAL

Copies of material from the Archives may be provided by the Archivist, for the purpose of private research and study only, and subject to the conditions of the Archives' reproduction policy and to the provisions of New Zealand copyright legislation.
